Following his arrest for his involvement in a robbery, Coronation Street's Damon Hay has bid farewell to the cobbles for good.
The character, portrayed by Ciaran Griffiths, has exited the ITV soap after a two-year stint. Ciaran, 41, joined Corrie in 2022 as Damon and has been involved in some big storylines - most notably his affair with Sarah Platt (Tina O'Brien) which caused her marriage to Adam Barlow (Sam Robertson) to end. However, having plead guilty to all charges after his arrest, Damon said goodbye to Sarah for good in Friday's (29 March) episode.
After much speculation, it's now been confirmed that Ciaran has left his role on Corrie.
The scenes marked his last appearance on the soap. A source told The Sun: “Ciaran’s loved his time on the show but Damon’s story came to a natural end for now.
The door has been left open but for now it’s time to say goodbye to him.” The emotional scenes saw Sarah visit Damon in prison and vow to wait for him. However, he refused to let her put her life on hold for him and ended things between them.
"I asked you here to tell to your face – we're finished," he told Sarah, who was stunned by his statement. Damon added: "You turned my world upside down, right? But if I loved you, properly loved you, I wouldn't have done the stuff I've done. You've got to walk away.
I'm sorry, it's my decision." Damon was arrested after getting involved in a robbery, despite vowing to give up all criminal activity in order to be with Sarah. He was reunited with brother Harvey Gaskell (Will Mellor) in prison, after he bribed a guard and was let into his cell.
