Coronation Street star Doreen Mantle dies 'peacefully' at home aged 97

One Foot In The Grave star Doreen Mantle has died aged 97. The South African-born actress passed away peacefully at her home, her agent announced.
Doreen is best known for her role as Jean Warboys in the BBC sitcom from 1990 to 2000. She also starred as Joy Fishwick in ITV's Coronation Street playing the mum of Colin Fishwick, who was a victim of identity fraud by John Stape.
Doreen also won an Olivier Award in 1979 for her role in Death Of A Salesman in the National Theatre. A representative for the actress confirmed her death this afternoon.
They said: "It is with great sadness that we announce the death of our beloved client and much-loved stage, screen, and radio actress Doreen Mantle, aged 97. She died peacefully at home. She is survived by her two sons, four grandchildren and one brother."
She is also known for her role as Simone Mannstein and Sylvia Wheeler on the BBC medical drama Holby City for four years.
Prior to her death, Doreen's last role saw her step back into the shoes of Jean for a special edition of One Foot In The Grave – 30 Years of Laughs. Before that, she had a recurring role in the BBC One series, Doctors, between 2001 and 2019.
