After emotional scenes finding out her son has only six to twelve months left to live, Bernie Winter leaves herself at risk of not being around in next week's Coronation Street. As Paul Foreman faced a lengthy wait for his Personal Independence Payment (PIP), Bernie took matters into her own hands when she met with Big Garth.
She asked him to flog the rest of their gear at a knockdown price as she desperately needed money. But once in the precinct, Big Garth handed Bernie a wad of cash but unbeknownst to them a police officer took photos and as Bernie headed home she was arrested on suspicion of handling stolen goods.
Bernie will now be left breaking the news to Paul and sister Gemma Winter-Brown that she’s up in court for handling stolen goods. On solicitor Joel Deering's advice, Bernie pleads guilty.

The move leaves Paul, Gemma, Paul's husband Billy Mayhew and her partner Dev Alahanreel in shock as the judge states that given her record, they have no other option but to impose a custodial sentence.
