Coronation Street star Matt Milburn has hinted at his soap future as he addressed what he thinks his character would like to happen with cobbles icon Tracy Barlow. As viewers of the ITV soap know, the actor's character Tommy Orpington recently returned to Weatherfield.
And a brief meeting with Tracy, played by Kate Ford, on Christmas Day has soon led to a longer stint on the cobbles for Tommy with the retired footballer-turned-painter and decorator falling for the florist's charm and embarking up on an affair behind her husband Steve McDonald's back.
In upcoming scenes, Tracy is forced to confess to her affair after being tricked into her first confession by Steve's bestie Tim Metcalfe. And Tim soon tells his wife Sally that he wants Tommy gone out of loyalty to Steve after hiring him after his work at No.11 and at the florist.

Tommy's return marked Matt's latest stint on the cobbles. The actor first appeared in the role of the Weatherfield County footballer, who befriended Steve and Tim after hiring Michelle Connor as a wedding planner, in 2016. He then made further sporadic appearances over the next few years and was last seen in 2021, when he retired from his footballing career.
His latest comeback was teased during the soap's Christmas Day episode in December 2023 and his appearances has become more regular thanks to his character's secret liaisons. "I'm loving be back," Matt admitted to the Manchester Evening News and other press.
