Families claim their Christmases were ruined after allegedly receiving rotten turkeys from major supermarkets around the country. After making the grim discoveries as they began to prepare for the festive dinner, affected customers have been sharing pictures of the gone-off poultry on social media.
One bird, which had a dark blue and black colour underneath its skin, was even compared to looking similar to the famous alien ET, Birmingham Live reports. Sophie Whike shared a picture of the turkey on Twitter and wrote: "Literally what the hell is this. Just defrosted my Turkey from @LidlGB.
"Christmas ruined. It's Xmas eve - this is actually a joke. Not only is there no meat, the house smells of rotten meat - not acceptable." Others faced similar issues as they tried to prepare their turkeys.
Notorious2023 tweeted: "What the bloody hell @sainsbury. My turkey is rotten. Christmas ruined, kids are crying. We now have to have beans on toast. An absolute disgrace."
Meanwhile Adam Green told his followers: "Just got my @sainsburys turkey out the fridge to stuff it and prep it for tomorrow's big Christmas dinner for the bird to absolutely stink! Gave it 15mins to see if the smell would go only for it to get worse.
"Very disappointing considering it would've been the centerpiece." Sainsbury's responded by saying they will look into the complaint.
Jonathan Heard said: "Oh wow @sainsburys this is a pretty poor show! Fresh turkey dated 27th Dec and it's bad! Slimy skin with yellowing patches and smells off. That's going to put a downer on tomorrow's Christmas dinner for 13!"
Unhappy customer Traceyamarshall said: "Thank you @LidlGB for nearly ruining our xmas! Turkey crown bought had gone off. Absolutely vile"
