Roast turkey, BBQ pork rib steak, chicken balmoral, roast ham and chicken wrapped in bacon are among the treats being served up to Scotland's criminals on Christmas Day. Irn-Bru, mince pies, chocolate gateau, Christmas puddings and chocolate chip brownies and custard will also be given to lags spending the festive period behind bars.
Cons serving time for serious offences such as murder, rape and drug dealing will be treated to special Christmas Day menus in the country's prisons. Those in Glasgow's Barlinnie Prison will be able to choose between rolls and sausage, vegetarian sausages or Weetabix for breakfast, and roast turkey or veggie Kiev for lunch.
The turkey comes with pigs in blankets, sage and onion stuffing, sweet cranberry gravy, roast potatoes, brussel sprouts and julienne carrots, while the kiev comes with roasters, sprouts, julienne carrots and Christmas Pudding with a Creamy Rum Sauce.
For dinner, they have the choice of BBQ Pork Rib steak in a hot dog roll, with mayonnaise and cheese, or a vegetable quarter pounder, in a floured roll, also with mayo and cheese, and a cup a soup and bread. Their extras include a festive bakewell tart, tangerines, sweet mince pies and Irn-Bru.
The Halal option at the prison includes a beef curry with special basmati rice and naan bread for lunch, and a halal beef burger with mayo and cheese for dinner.
Those within HMP Low Moss, near Bishopbriggs, East Dunbartonshire, will get bacon rolls and sauce, and orange juice, for lunch, and have a choice for dinner. The dinner options are tomato soup, followed by turkey and roast ham with onion gravy, stuffing, mini chipolatas, gratin potatoes and a selection of vegetables, or a brie and beetroot tart.
