A car has been left wrecked after a crash on a busy Scots motorway which caused rush hour tailbacks this morning.
Emergency services raced to the M77 northbound, at junction 2, after the accident happened near Silverburn at around 8am on Friday. A picture taken from the scene showed the front of the car completely crushed by the impact of the crash.
Traffic quickly built up as commuters had to use the hard shoulder to manoeuvre around the vehicle. Officers quickly scrambled to the scene to clear the wreckage, but delays of around 25 minutes were reported on approach.
It's understood the carriageway is now cleared and traffic is slowly returning to normal. The condition of the person involved in the accident is currently unknown.
Traffic Scotland raised the alarm in a post on Twitter at 8.01am. They said: "The northbound carriageway is currently restricted due to a collision. Traffic is able to pass on the hard shoulder. Police and TRISS are en-route."
In a later post, at 08.35am, they added: "The northbound carriageway is now cleared and all lanes are running after an earlier collision. Traffic is slowly returning to normal."
Police Scotland has been asked for comment.
