Relatives and loved ones of a teenage girl who died after a crash on the M73 have paid tribute to "the sweetest, most caring soul".
Sophie Laing, 16, was killed after a horrific collision near the motorway's Gartcosh Junction in North Lanarkshire on Saturday, January 28. The teenager, from Cumbernauld, had been a passenger in the rear of a car that collided with another vehicle at around 1.30pm that day.
Following the crash, she and the 62-year-old male driver of the vehicle were both rushed to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow. But sadly, Sophie could not be saved and later passed away in hospital from her injuries.
A 42-year-old man was later arrested in connection with a road traffic offence and has since been released pending further enquiries. Following the tragedy, Sophie's grieving cousin has described her as having a "heart of gold" who would "put everyone else's needs before her own".
A fundraiser launched in memory of the teenager reads: "Our family is heartbroken. My little cousin Sophie tragically lost her life on Saturday, January 28 from a horrific car accident.
"To lose any loved one suddenly, unexpectedly and in such a manner is incomprehensible but Sophie was only 16-years-old with a full life ahead of her. Something completely unimaginable to us all."
Prior to her death, Sophie had been attending a hairdressing course at new College Lanarkshire.
The statement continued: "She was the sweetest, most caring person who loved nothing more than caring for her family and spending time with her niece, family and her friends. She loved all types of music, from Westlife to club music and no matter what it was, she would have it blaring through a speaker throughout the house so everyone could hear it whether
