Karina Longworth’s ‘You Must Remember This’ Podcast Marks 10 Years With Egyptian Screening Series (EXCLUSIVE)

Matt Donnelly Senior Film Writer Hollywood’s Egyptian Theatre will host a special screening series to celebrate the 10-year anniversary of the podcast “You Must Remember This,” created and hosted by Karina Longworth. Longworth has now spent a decade examining the untold histories of show business — including watercooler seasons spent revisiting the Manson murders, the Star Wars franchise and the life and career of Joan Crawford. The Egyptian, owned by Netflix, has curated a three-day screening series featuring the films of Hollywood bombshell Kim Novak.Novak was the subject of the “lost” and first-ever recorded episode of “You Must Remember This.” Longworth has previously said a corrupted audio file and “large swaths” of copyrighted music led to the shelving of the episode, which will finally be released [Editor’s note: In the TV series that launched and catapulted Ryan Murphy to stardom, “Popular,” a fictional girl’s room at a Southern California high school was named for Novak after a donation from the star.

Jack Black wants a ‘School of Rock’ sequel — but ‘White Lotus’ is getting in the way

Jack Black said he’s down for a “School of Rock” sequel — but that “The White Lotus” is standing in his way. That’s because Mike White, who wrote the original 2003 “School of Rock” movie, also created HBO’s breakout hit “The White Lotus” — and he’s working on Season 3 of that series right now.“You know Mike White wrote the the first one and he’s a genius,” Black told Variety. “And we’d have to have Mike White back in the saddle, but he’s real busy right now with ‘The White Lotus,’ the best show on TV.“I wish there’d be a ‘School of Rock 2 Electric Boogaloo,” Black joked, referring to “Breakin’ 2: Electric Boogaloo,” the 1984 sequel to the dance musical “Breakin’.”“I’m ready.”Season 3 of “The White Lotus” will take place in Thailand, where White is currently hunkered down in production on the Emmy-winning series.White wrote the screenplay for “School of Rock,” directed by Richard Linklater, in which Black played Dewey Finn, a guitarist who’s thrown out of his rock group No Vacancy — and then assembles a makeshift band of kid musicians while substitute-teaching at a prep school. The movie co-starred White, Sarah Silverman and Joan Cusack; child actors included future “iCarly” star Miranda Cosgrove. It was adapted into a hit Broadway musical from 2015 to 2019; kid’s network Nickelodeon also adapted “School of Rock” into a series that aired for three seasons from 2016 to 2018 and starred Tony Cavalero as Dewey Finn.In 2022, Black told Entertainment Tonight that the movie is the high point of his career.“My best memories are just that group of kids, and how funny and great they were,” the “Kung Fu Panda 4” actor said at the time.

Filmart Wraps Edition That Was Busier, More China-Focused & Light On Sales Deals

This year’s Filmart was definitely bigger and busier than last year, which was the first physical edition following the reopening of Hong Kong and mainland China’s borders after the pandemic. According to Filmart organizers, the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC), more than 750 exhibitors and 7,500 visitors attended this year’s Filmart, compared to around 700 exhibitors and 7,300 visitors in 2023. But despite frenetic meeting activity, the market did little to dispel fears that international sales business in the region, already in decline before the pandemic, is not yet recovering. International sales agents under the IFTA and European Film Promotion (EFP) umbrellas had packed meeting schedules.
