Manchester United boss Marc Skinner believes few teams will be able to deal with his side if they can hit their best form this season.
United host top of the Women’s Super League Leicester on Sunday, October 15 at Leigh Sports Village. It’s the Red’s fourth fixture since the season opener on October 1, having pulled four points from two league games thus far.
The Reds kicked off their 2023/24 season with a 2-1 win over Aston Villa and a two-all tie with Arsenal earlier in the month and then drew with Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday evening, one-goal-a-piece in United’s inaugural Champions League campaign.
United were put under persistent pressure in the opening 45, yet came out after the break all guns blazing as they kept hold of the ball, pulled the tie back to level terms and took the game to the French heavyweights. Skinner has now discussed how the squad unlocked a new level of performance and he wants that to stay: “PSG in the first half were another level physically. They [United players] felt how intense it was in the first half and then in the second half, they fixed it quickly.
“So if we can get to the level and quality of the ball that we had in the second half then, I don't think many teams will live with us.
“No disrespect to Leicester because they’re top of the league and won three games out of three but what I'm going to be referencing [to the players] is the [PSG] performance, that level, that speed, that intensity and if we can do that, Leicester will have a very tough opponent to play against.
“If you’ve set that standard, why not chase it again? The opponent will be different but [Leicester] they’re high energy, high press, they will put pressure on us.
“If we get to that level of that second half
