An investigation has been launched after a man's body was pulled from a freezing canal in Inverness.
Emergency services scrambled to the Caledonian Canal in the Highland capital after the alarm was raised at around 9.40am on Tuesday, January 16.
Officers from Police Scotland were responding to reports of concern for a person in the water. A 31-year-old man was subsequently recovered from the canal near the Tomnahurich Swing Bridge.
Fire and ambulance crews - including a critical care unit - attended, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene. His next of kin are aware.
Police have launched a probe to establish the full circumstances surrounding the death.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We were made aware of concern for a person in the Caledonian Canal in Inverness shortly after 9.40am on Tuesday, January 16, 2024.
“A 31-year-old man was subsequently recovered from the water. He was pronounced dead at the scene and his next of kin are aware. Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.”
