Bobby Brazier thinks his late mum Jade Goody would be 'proud' of him after taking home the Rising Star gong at the National Television Awards.
The actor, 20, who plays Freddie Slater on BBC soap EastEnders will join the latest group of celebrities trying their luck on Strictly Come Dancing. The BBC ballroom dancing show will return to screens on Saturday, September 16, with Claudia Winkleman and Tess Daly as hosts.
Bobby was just five-years-old, and his brother Freddie, four, when Jade Goody passed away on Mother's Day, 2009, following a battle with cervical cancer. Speaking about his prestigious win at the NTA's, Bobby told the Daily Star: "I think my mum would be proud of me for everything."
He continued: "Everybody that loves me… my family, my friends, they’re all really happy for me. They’re all really excited. They know Strictly is something I’ll love to do. Everyone is just buzzing for me. That makes me happy."
When asked if he was following in his mums reality TV footsteps, Bobby said: "I wouldn’t say Strictly is the same kind of reality TV. I’m learning a skill."
Speaking about performing live every weekend, he added: "Live TV is exciting. But it’s a little bit daunting. I think it’s going to be a rush I’ve never felt before, especially when I’m proud of what I’ve done.
"When it’s the first live show, I’ll feel excited and nervous. I’ll feel all the emotions, I’m sure."
Bobby previously admitted that he doesn't remember his mum prior to her death. Speaking to The Face, he explained he was so used to not having his mum around that it feels normal.
“I don’t feel like I’ve missed out on a mum. It’s normal life to me,” he told the publication. “I’ve kind of spent more life without her than I did with her.”
