BBC Radio 2 star Sara Cox "only ate starters" after shock at "spendy" Chinese restaurant

BBC Radio 2 star Sara Cox has shared her shock at the prices of food when she took her husband to a posh restaurant for his birthday. Sara, from Bolton, said she made her family eat "only starters" after clocking the price of main meals at the "spendy" Chinese restaurant in the capital.
Sara shared the story with her millions of listeners on the BBC Radio 2 drivetime show on Tuesday afternoon. The show was focussing on listeners' embarrassing moments which she was reading out on air.
In the midst of it all she shared her own story about what she'd been up to at the weekend.

The popular DJ told her audience she'd taken her husband, Ben Cyzer, to London's landmark building The Shard for a special birthday treat. They had taken the Tube out into the city for the occasion.
But when they got to their restaurant, she said she was left gobsmacked by the price of main meals - including half a crispy duck on the menu at £70.
She told listeners: "I took my husband up The Shard for his birthday, it was a real treat we went to a Chinese restaurant. There was four of us, took two of the kids, the big one was away at university.
She continued: "They were lovely, lovely staff, I've got to say that, and I did tell the manager that when we were leaving. The view was great because we were up The Shard.
"It was lovely, the food came, it was absolutely delicious, which was good, because it was so spendy, it was so expensive we only had starters!
"I tried to make it sound like it was dim sum, my 16 year old son was like "what, have we finished?" I said "yes, rice is overrated we don't want any of those mains". I'm like "it's a lunchtime dim sum" and
