Valerie Wu Intern Lily Gladstone has become the first Native American woman to be nominated for best actress at the Academy Awards. Gladstone was recognized for her role as Osage woman and historical figure Mollie Burkhart in Martin Scorsese’s epic “Killers of the Flower Moon.” Gladstone’s nomination comes four years after Yalitza Aparicio, who is Indigenous Mexican, received a best actress nomination at the 2019 Oscars. Aparicio starred in Alfonso Cuarón’s 2018 film “Roma” as housekeeper Cleodegaria “Cleo” Gutiérrez.

Studios, specialty labels, streamers and indies spread the field of BAFTA Film Awards nominations announced today. Universal‘s Oppenheimer leads with 13, followed by Searchlight‘s Poor Things at 11 and Apple Original Films‘ Killers of the Flower Moon at nine, tying with A24’s The Zone of Interest.

Justine Triet’s Cannes Palme d’Or Anatomy Of A Fall continued its buzzy awards season career on Thursday as it clocked up seven BAFTA nominations, including best director and film.The drama was also nominated for best original screenplay, film not in the English language, actress for Sandra Hüller, casting and editing.

Oppenheimer leading the way with no less than 13 nominations, including best film. Yorgos Lanthimos’ Poor Things is a close second with 11 nods, and then Killers of the Flower Moon and The Zone of Interest which both bagged 9.

Jodie Foster has opened up about watching Greta Gerwig’s Barbie last year, while reflecting on the history of female directors in Hollywood.In a new interview with Time, Foster was asked about an interview she did with the publication in 1991 where she spoke about the lack of opportunities for women in the industry. In the same interview, she said she hoped there would be an “old-girl network” in Hollywood one day, at a time when there were few opportunities for women in the industry – especially in terms of directing and lead roles.Looking back at the interview, Foster said: “Sometimes I read things I said in my [twenties] and I’m like, really?
