The BAFTA Film Awards have unveiled this year’s longlists for 24 categories, and in the lead are Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer, Greta Gerwig’s Barbie, and Martin Scorsese’s Killers Of The Flower Moon. Scroll down for the lists in full.
The heavyweight trio is tied with 15 longlist nods apiece. All three films pop up in best film, director, and the respective screenplay categories: Killers and Oppenheimer in adapted screenplay, while Barbie sits in original screenplay. The haul of 15 longlist mentions equals last year’s record showing from Edward Berger’s war feature All Quiet on the Western Front.
Chasing the leading pack are Yorgos Lanthimos’s Golden Lion winner Poor Things with 14 and Bradley Cooper’s musical biopic Maestro with 12.Both films netted longlist mentions in best film, cinematography, director, and respective screenplay categories.
Other strong showings on the list are Emerald Fennell’s contentious high society drama Saltburn, which appears 11 times, and Andrew Haigh’s enigmatic drama All of Us Strangers, which has ten longlist mentions, including best film and two mentions in supporting actor with Paul Mescal and Jamie Bell. Jonathan Glazer’s innovative holocaust drama The Zone of Interest also has ten mentions, while Celine Song’s confident debut feature Past Lives netted 6, including best film. The strongest international showing was Justine Triet’s Anatomy of a Fall, with 7 nods, including director and original screenplay. The surprise frontrunner in the pack is Warner’s festive reboot Wonka, starring Timothée Chalamet, which has 8 mentions.

BAFTA has responded to snubs in the recently announced nominations list.The nominees for the prestigious awards were announced this afternoon, with Oppenheimer continuing to receive high praise this award season with 13 BAFTA nominations, following another impressive evening at the Critics Choice Awards on January 15.However, Greta Gerwig’s Barbie, which received high critical acclaim and broke multiple box office records, only received five nominations after being longlisted for 15 categories.The movie, which was released in July last year, missed out on the nomination for Best Film, and Gerwig has not been recognised for her directing.
