William Earl Brazilian superstar Anitta, “Law & Order: SVU” star Mariska Hargitay, showrunner and author Shonda Rhimes and comedian Amy Schumer have been selected as the honorees for Variety‘s annual Power of Women New York event, to be held May 2. The luncheon gathering, presented in partnership with Lifetime, celebrates the charitable work done by the Power of Women New York honorees, who will be featured on four separate covers for the April 30 print edition of Variety.
The issue also includes the annual survey of accomplished women in media and entertainment as profiled in the annual Women’s Impact Report. Amber Ruffin, a multihyphenate known for her work on Peacock’s “The Amber Ruffin Show” and NBC’s “Late Night with Seth Meyers,” will host the event.
“Variety’s Power of Women franchise is a showcase of the strength exhibited by women in the entertainment community who are driving a dynamic industry forward and using their influence to make the world a better place,” said Michelle Sobrino-Stearns, CEO and Group Publisher of Variety. “We are grateful as always to Lifetime for its unwavering support of this important series of events.” The Power of Women celebration comes as Anitta is preparing for the release of her highly anticipated new album, “Funk Generation,” on April 26.
She will bring awareness to the organization CUFA (Central Única das Favelas), which promotes social action in favelas and peripheral territories through cultural, artistic, sports, educational, and social responsibility projects.
