Adele broke down in tears during an emotional heart to heart with her close pal James Corden in the TV star's final Carpool Karaoke. The duo were filming the final instalment of the actor and chat show host's hugely-popular Late Late Show segment Carpool Karaoke, when the 34 year old singer started opening up about the difficulties of her divorce to ex-husband Simon Konecki, 49.The Rolling in the Deep superstar, who now resides in the US with her son Angelo, 10, whom she shares with Simon, was introducing a song "very special" to both her and James, 44.
Adele revealed that she had relied on the former Gavin and Stacey comedy actor for support during the period after her split. And a conversation they had where Adele realised James was going through a tough period in his life led to a poignant track on her most recent album.
"The first verse of this song, which I think is some of my best writing that I've ever done, even if I do say so myself, was inspired by a conversation that you and I had had on the 4 January 2020," Adele began. "We'd been on vacation together with the kids, and we were on our way home.
My mood had changed, and it was like the first year that I felt like I had to hold myself accountable for just being an adult." As the star reflected on how much she'd changed during those years, where she also chose to take a break from her music and remain out of the spotlight, the mum-of-one's voice broke and she started crying. "The year before that, when I left Simon and stuff like that, you and [James's wife] Jules and the kids were so integral in looking after me and Angelo and making sure that I didn't..." Adele trailed off, as James started to well up himself watching his friend becoming teary.
