ACE Eddie Prizes Go To “Jojo Rabbit” And “Parasite”

The Oscars are just a few days away, which means it's officially time to reflect on all the and channel your inner movie critic to decide who you'd chose to win if you were an Academy member. For your consideration, just spoke with tree actress about how being a mother inspired her performance in Jojo Rabbit.

At the Jan. 3 AFI Awards, Mel Brooks interrupted his speech about the American Film Institute’s women directors program to praise Taika Waititi for Searchlight’s “Jojo Rabbit.” However, he joked, the filmmaker “did not ask my permission to use Hitler!”

Last night, the Costume Designers Guild had their say in the Oscar race. The 22nd annual CDG Awards were held and with only two of the five Academy Award nominees in the running here, all eyes were on this group to see if that might tell us anything. The Costume Designers Guild handed out its trophies for the 22nd annual CDG Awards with “Jojo Rabbit” and “Maleficent: Mistress of Evil” receiving top honors among the costumers.

Given the amount of high-profile projects he’s currently linked to — an unnamed Star Wars film, Thor: Love and Thunder, an Akira live-action remake, to name just a few — the idea of Taika Waititi being anything other than one of the most in-demand directors on the planet may seem a little alien.But that was the case back in February 2012, when an early script for Jojo Rabbit — currently in the race for best picture and best adapted screenplay Oscars — was just one of 36 projects being pitched

This year’s crop of WGA-nominated adapted and original screenplays appears on the surface to be a grim lot. There’s war (“1917,” “Jojo Rabbit”), insidious homewreckers (“Parasite”), a Civil War-era coming-of age (“Little Women”) and an arch murder investigation (“Knives Out”), to name just a few of the nominated scripts.

After a number of important Guilds and precursors have chimed in, do we know more about the Oscar race? Well, yes and no. Notable Academy Award precursors like the ACE Eddie prize, the Producers Guild Award, and the Screen Actors Guild Awards have come and gone.

“1917” continued its award-winning streak on Sunday night when it took home the feature motion picture – dialogue award at the MPSE Golden Reel Awards, recognizing outstanding achievement in sound editing. Taika Waititi’s “Jojo Rabbit” won for feature motion picture – music underscore.

“Parasite” made history on Friday night when it became the first Foreign Language film to win the top prize at the Ace Eddie Awards. Editor Jinmo Yang was recognized for his work on Bong Joon Ho’s drama. Best Edited Feature Film (Comedy), went to”Jojo Rabbit editor, Tom Eagles won.
