A Place in the Sun aired a heartbreaking tribute to late TV presenter Jonnie Irwin following his death, leaving viewers "choking back tears". Jonnie sadly passed away at the age of 50, after being diagnosed with terminal lung cancer in 2020. His wife Jessica announced his death on social media on 2 February.
Famed for hosting A Place In The Sun between 2004 and 2021, Jonnie was understandably a huge part of the Channel 4 show and producers made sure to honour the late TV star at the beginning of a new episode, which aired days after his tragic death. The latest episode of A Place In The Sun, which sees presenter Danni Menzies exploring properties in Manilva, Spain, kicked off with a special segment dedicated to Jonnie. "In Memory of Jonnie Irwin 1974-2024," the tribute read, alongside a photograph of Jonnie in front of a beach.
The sweet gesture left TV viewers in tears, with many taking to social media to share their sadness over Jonnie's passing. "Choking back tears at seeing Jonnie Irwin on his final show and the tribute at the end! Rest well now Jonnie you fought the hard fight," one person wrote on X, as a second penned: "lovely tribute!
