Katcy Stephan R. Lance Hill, the screenwriter of the original 1989 film “Road House,” has filed a law suit against Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios and its parent company, Amazon Studios, for copyright infringement. In the filing obtained by Variety, Hill (who uses pen name David Lee Henry) claims Amazon ignored his ability to reclaim the rights for his 1986 screenplay as they mounted a remake starring Jake Gyllenhaal, out March 21 on Prime Video.

But with few fresh films on release the cinema-going market slowed. “Alienoid 2” earned $2.06 million between Friday and Sunday, according to data from Kobis, the tracking service operated by the Korean Film Council (Kofic). That was down by 42% compared with its opening session a week earlier and leaves it with a total of $7.96 million after 12 days on release. The first instalment of “Alienoid” was one of the biggest flops of 2022.

Scripted TV production ticked up slightly in the fourth quarter compared with the prior three-month period, but still remained far below historic levels. And feature film production continued to decline even after the strikes ended.
Nicki Minaj has announced additional dates to her 2024 “Pink Friday 2 World Tour.” The rapper has added 13 new dates to the tour, which were initially revealed in December. North American fans in Atlanta, Boston and Chicago will get another chance to catch Minaj when she’s in town with second nights, while subsequent dates have been added overseas in Glasgow, Paris and Stockholm, where she’ll conclude the tour on June 12. In addition to arena shows in North America and Europe, Minaj will make appearances at Rolling Loud California and Dreamville Festival.

Michaela Zee Tom Shales, a Pulitzer-winning television critic at the Washington Post who spent nearly 40 years at the publication, has died. He was 79. Shales died Saturday at a hospital in Fairfax County, Va., from complications due to COVID-19 and renal failure, his caretaker, Victor Herfurth, told the Washington Post.

Lawyers representing Ozy Media allege that Smith, former BuzzFeed News editor-in-chief and New York Times media columnist who is currently editor-in-chief of Semafor, wrote “a series of hit pieces” about Ozy Media but that he did not disclose “his central role in BuzzFeed’s efforts to buy Ozy two years earlier” while he was at BuzzFeed.
