Projects centered around the left-wing revolutionary group, the Black Panther Party, continue to fascinate popular culture. In 2022, Daniel Kaluuya won an Oscar for portraying the betrayed deputy chairman, Fred Hampton, in the bio-crime drama, “Judas and the Black Messiah.” Now, a new limited series, “The Big Cigar,” based on a Playboy Article by Joshuah Bearman (known for the Wired Article that inspired “Argo”), tells the too-good-to-be-true story of Black Panther co-founder Huey Percy Newton’s escape to Cuba with the assistance of a famous film producer.

Some shows are big cultural hits and juggernauts, and some quietly go on season after season; maybe not a huge critical giant, but there are enough ardent fans to justify their existence. And that’s probably where Apple TV+’s “Trying,” a heartwarming British comedy television series created by Andy Wolton (“The Amazing World of Gumball”), lands; it has its fans, and it keeps successfully chugging along, though to be fair, it does have its U.K.

Swedish-born, British-raised actress Rebecca Ferguson has been juggling her time between high-profile streaming and cinematic roles; her recent turn in “Dune: Part Two” helped the film earn an impressive $684.9 million at the global box office.

Hot on the heels of the success of their Monsterverse series, “Monarch: Legacy of Monsters,” Apple TV+ announced that the acclaimed show has been renewed for a second season. Produced by Legendary Entertainment, who is also behind the Monsterverse films like the recent “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire,” Apple also announced a deal they made with the company to create multiple spin-offs from the TV Monsterverse and based on ‘Monarch’ series.

Having charmed audiences with season one in 2023, Apple TV+ has released a new trailer for the second season of their acclaimed comedy series “The Big Door Prize” Emmy-winner Chris O’Dowd (“Bridesmaids“). Audiences can watch the first three episodes when the streaming series premieres later this month on April 24.

Two heavyweights of prestige TV, Elisabeth Moss (“The Handmaid’s Tale”) and Kerry Washington (“Scandal”) are teaming up for a new high-profile streaming series titled “Imperfect Women.” Apple TV+ announced yesterday that the limited series is based on the gripping novel by Araminta Hall, which is sure to leave audiences eagerly anticipating its release. Annie Weisman will adapt “Imperfect Women” as both writer and executive producer for television.

“He’s the most idolized comedian ever,” Jerry Seinfeld says glowingly in “STEVE! (Martin) A Documentary in 2 Pieces,” an oddly shaped documentary that takes until its second half to elucidate what it’s really about and make the audience care. Featuring an epic (and overlong) three-hour runtime broken into two halves and told from two perspectives, ‘Then’ and ‘Now,’ they’re almost seemingly made by two different filmmakers, and only part two is genuinely captivating.

While she’s coming off the praise of her critically acclaimed drama, “Priscilla,” which is turning its lead, Cailee Spaeny, into something of a star (she’s got the leading role in the next “Aliens” movie from director Fede Alvarez), filmmaker Sofia Coppola had less luck with a project that was supposed to arrive before it. Coppola revealed late last fall that Apple TV+ had decided not to proceed with her first series attempt, an adaptation of Edith Wharton’s “The Custom of the Country.

From writer, showrunner and executive producer Melanie Marnich (“The OA,” “The Affair”), executive producer David Heyman (“Wonka,” “Barbie”) and based on Liane Moriarty’s (“Big Little Lies,” “9 Perfect Strangers”) #1 New York Times bestselling novel of the same name “Apples Never Fall” is a new Apple TV drama arriving in March.

Edith Wharton‘s final and unfinished novel, “The Buccaneers” is getting an Apple TV+ adaptation. Developed by Katherine Jakeways and directed by “Andor’s” Susanna White and Beth Willis, the eight-episode television series will be making its way to the streaming service in November.
