There were more emotional scenes in Emmerdale as the Dingle family came to terms with Marlon's health scare and the fan favourite character underwent surgery.

And Mark's surreal portrayal seems to have hit home in particular with This Morning host Phillip Schofield, who has commended him for his astonishing performance.

Emmerdale star Samantha Giles has given a health update on Twitter after being taken to hospital with a mystery illness. The actress, who plays Bernice Blackstock on the ITV soap, updated fans about her health scare that saw her spend some time in hospital. She did not reveal any details about her illness, but thanked the NHS and "caring staff" for looking after her.

Mark Charnock has firmly established himself as a soap legend, having played Marlon Dingle in Emmerdale since 1996. During his time in the role, Marlon has been involved in his fair share of dramas in the Dales, including three marriages. In 2004, Mark won the award for Best Dramatic Performance at the British Soap Awards after a especially moving storyline in which Marlon made the decision to switch off the life support machine for his wife Tricia.

Emmerdale fans have noticed a striking resemblance between newcomer Marcus Dean to a particular legendary actor on the soap. Actor Darcy Grey arrived in the Dales as Marcus who is the son of the rapist and killer, Pierce Harris, played by Jonathan Wrather and victim, Rhona Goskirk played by Zoe Henry. The handsome stranger had his own emotional backstory of the abuse he received as a child at the hands of his father.
