Maggie Rogers and Marcus Mumford covered Taylor Swift‘s song ‘Cowboy Like Me’ at Sommo Festival yesterday (July 15).Rogers and Mumford & Sons headlined Friday and Saturday of the festival, respectively, which in took place in Cavendish in the Canadian province of Prince Edward Island this weekend.Last night, Rogers joined Mumford to perform a moving, stripped back rendition of Swift’s ‘Evermore’ track ‘Cowboy Like Me’.The pair also performed Mumford & Sons’ songs ‘Fare Thee Well (Dink’s Song)’ and ‘Timshel’, the latter alongside Allison Russell.According to setlist.fm, Mumford also performed a cover of The New Basement Tapes’ ‘Kansas City’ with Rogers and Izzy Heltai.You can watch fan-shot footage of their performances below.

The 22-year-old music extravaganza kicked off Europe’s festival season with its four-night bow in Barcelona this past weekend. Featuring multiple headliners – Blur, Halsey, Kendrick Lamar, Depeche Mode, New Order, Calvin Harris and Rosalia — on side-by-side interchanging stages, some 70,000 revelers attended daily, taking in the grounds of the city’s Parc del Forum and its myriad entertainment, activity and food options (including a full Primavera Pro conference track for industry attendees).  While at a map’s glance, it seemed as if acts on the smaller stages would drown each other out, the organizers choreographed the schedule so expertly that any conflicts didn’t feel insurmountable. It also helped that there were 317 acts to choose from, spread out over 10 stages and as many acres lining the city’s port. According to the fest, 193,000 attended Primavera’s three main days, with the largest crowd gathering for the final night where the main draw was Spain’s own Rosalia — evident from the scores of fans wearing red and black, the colors of her latest project, “Motomami.” 

Maggie Rogers has confirmed that she has finished writing and recording her third album.As revealed in a new Instagram post, the follow-up to last year’s ‘Surrender’ LP was laid down at Electric Lady Studios in New York.“That’s a wrap on LP3 !!!!” she told fans, adding that the album was “written + recorded + off to mixing.”Alongside photos and videos from the studio – including a tiny snippet of new music presumably taken from the album – Rogers added: “So so so in love with these songs and cannot wait to start playing them for you this summer.”This summer, she will head out on her biggest US tour to date, that will see her playing alongside Soccer Mommy and Alvvays.Rogers recently brought her ‘Feral Joy’ tour to United States in support of ‘Surrender’, and since then detailed new dates for summer.Ahead of the tour, the singer hosted a pre-sale window of in-person ticket sales at box offices before regular online sales begin.She explained on Instagram: “There’s a lot of conversation right now about combatting bots and making sure tickets get directly into the hands of fans, and at a reasonable price. Ari Herstand Last week, I went to see one of my favorite artists, Theo Katzman, play the Wiltern Theater in Los Angeles. Theo, who I recently featured on the New Music Business podcast, is a completely independent artist — no label; no manager.  I wanted to avoid the exorbitant service fees tacked onto the tickets when purchasing online, so I showed up to the Wiltern’s box office the moment it opened on show day to snag (what I thought would be) a $30 “face value” ticket. However, when it came time to pay, the clerk told me that it would be $35. “There’s a $5 per ticket service fee added” she explained.  I asked her, “How can I avoid the service fee?” She replied: “You can’t.”

The new season will feature around 30 music and comedy acts including Boygenius, the Strokes, Duran Duran, Dave Matthews Band, LCD Soundsystem, Fall Out Boy, Zach Bryan, Kevin Hart, Maggie Rogers, Weezer, Lane 8, The Smile, Arctic Monkeys, Jungle, plus the inaugural Head In The Clouds New York Music & Arts Festival and the return of Rock the Bells Festival, celebrating the 50th year of hip hop. Additionally, The New York Pops – the 78-musician independent pop orchestra will perform with Jason Mraz. The full lineup to date appears below; more shows will be announced in the coming weeks.

The 28-year-old “Light On” singer announced Thursday on social media that tickets to her upcoming “Summer of ’23 Tour” would be sold at various box offices across the country on Friday — leaving some fans scrambling to make arrangements to get to them. “There’s a lot of conversation right now about combating bots and making sure tickets get directly into the hands of fans, and at a reasonable price,” she wrote on Instagram.“Ticketing fees have never been higher and a lot of people, me included, are justifiably frustrated and concerned.

Jem Aswad Senior Music Editor On May 30, Foo Fighters will headline the opening night of a new Washington D.C. venue called the Atlantis, an intimate 450-capacity room opened by independent promoter I.M.P., which also owns and operates area venues the 9:30 Club and the Anthem and operates the Lincoln Theatre and Merriweather Post Pavilion. The venue kicks off the season with a robust opening lineup that includes Maggie Rogers, Parliament Funkadelic, Yo La Tengo, Darius Rucker, Joan Jett, Tove Lo, Jeff Tweedy, Tank and the Bangas, Portugal. The Man, and Billy Idol, among others (full lineup below). The new club was accidentally announced by D.C.-area native Dave Grohl in September of 2021, when Foo Fighters played the re-opening night of the long-running 9:30 Club after months of pandemic shutdown. He said I.M.P. was going to open a new, smaller venue fashioned as a near replica of the original 9:30 Club, where he got his start. He gave no additional details but added, “We’ll probably be the band that opens that place, too, right?”
