‘Barry’ Season 4 Viewership Nearly Quadruples on HBO Max as ‘Succession’ Matches Series High (EXCLUSIVE)

Selome Hailu HBO is seeing solid success in audience size as it sends off two of its most loved series: “Barry” and “Succession,” which are both airing their fourth and final seasons. Episodes 1 and 2 of “Barry” Season 4 have reached an average of 2.5 million viewers since they both debuted on April 16. As previously reported, Episode 1 started at 710,000 viewers while Episode 2 saw 550,000 on premiere night — meaning that delayed viewing on streaming has allowed for an increase of 289%, a near quadruple of the original statistics. Additionally, Sunday’s release of Episode 3 reached 660,000 viewers, which is even with the average viewership of Season 3. These data points are based on a combination of Nielsen’s measurement of linear viewers on HBO’s cable channels and Warner Bros. Discovery’s first-party measurement of streams on HBO Max.

Kieran Culkin on Why Roman’s Wife and Kid Disappeared From ‘Succession’: ‘They Were Toying With Roman’s Sexuality’

Clayton Davis Senior Awards Editor SPOILER ALERT: This interview discusses gargantuan plot developments in “Kill List,” Season 4, Episode 5 of “Succession,” now streaming on HBO Max. Kieran Culkin hasn’t yet watched this week’s episode of “Succession” because he’s traveling — and doesn’t like watching things on his laptop. Having wrapped filming only six weeks ago, and with upcoming episodes still in post-production, Culkin isn’t even sure how the gripping story of this family dynasty will end. The April 23 episode “Kill List” was written by Jon Brown and Ted Cohen and directed by Emmy winner Andrij Parekh (for Season 2, Episode 3, “Hunting,” aka the “boar on the floor” episode), showcased one of Roman’s most emotionally driven scenes throughout the four seasons of “Succession.” In its tension-filled 60 minutes, Culkin demonstrated his abilities as a dramatic actor during a heated exchange with streaming media giant CEO Lukas Matsson (played exquisitely by Alexander Skarsgård). In the scene on the Norwegian mountaintops, Matsson insults Roman and Kendall (Jeremy Strong), the newly minted co-CEOs of Waystar Royco, as they try to “Scooby Doo” their way out of the GoJo deal the board desperately covets.

Brian Cox talks the future of ‘Succession’ as fans react to shocking twist

SPOILER ALERT: This article contains major spoilers for “Succession” Season 4, Episode 3, “Connor’s Wedding.“Fans are still reeling over Sunday night’s emotionally shocking episode of “Succession.” It was a moment many fans expected to come at some point in the season — but not as soon as it did.Logan Roy is dead. The episode, written by creator Jesse Armstrong and directed by Mark Mylod, started off centered around Connor Roy’s (Alan Ruck) wedding with girlfriend Willa (Justine Lupe), but quickly took a turn when Logan Roy (Brian Cox) suddenly collapsed on board his private jet — leaving the Roy siblings grieving over their father’s unexpected death at a wedding. In a highly emotional scene, Tom Wambsgans (Matthew MacFadyen) called Shiv (Sarah Snook), Kendall (Jeremy Strong) and Roman Roy (Kieran Culkin) from the plane to let them speak to their dad in case he could still hear them, with all of the children grieving and processing in their own ways.Mylod revealed in the behind-the-scenes look after the episode that the stunning sequence was filmed in one almost 30-minute continuous take. But as the kids deal with the death of their patriarch, the Waystar RoyCo team jumps into crisis mode, figuring out what kind of statement to release that will keep the markets happy and not negatively impact their impending deals. The show notably did not have a dramatic death scene. Viewers don’t get to see the media mogul die on-screen — just doctors doing chest compressions on a body that was most likely already dead and the aftermath of grief. It turns out, Cox, 76, wasn’t even there for the death.
