Zendaya, Josh O’Connor and Mike Faist to Star in Luca Guadagnino Tennis Drama ‘Challengers’

Tom Holland is coming off the crazy box office success with “Spider-Man: No Way Home” (the third highest-grossing film of all time domestically) and this weekend’s video game adaptation “Uncharted.” But, the star will soon be pivoting to television with a new drama series from writer Akiva Goldsman that is set up at Apple Studios and New Regency.

Recently, it was reported that Luca Guadagnino is putting together a cast for his latest film, titled “Challengers.” At the time, we learned the film was set to star Zendaya (of “Spider-Man: No Way Home,” “Euphoria,” and Edgar Wright’s Super Bowl ad fame). But now, we also know a couple of the other folks who will be joining her in the production.

Marvel Cinematic Universe is currently up in the air. Following the final episode of the Disney Plus show Loki, and the recently released Spider-Man: No Way Home, the comic book franchise has opened up the multiverse. This means any kind of hero could enter the MCU at any time.

Zendaya, “The Crown” star Josh O’Connor and “West Side Story” actor Mike Faist have been tapped to star in a new film from Luca Guadagnino called “Challengers” at MGM, according to a report first in Puck. “Challengers” is a romantic, sports-themed romance set in the world of pro tennis and stars Zendaya as a player turned coach who has managed to transform her husband (Faist) into a Grand Slam champion. But when he gets stuck on a recent losing streak, she makes him enter a “Challenger” event on the lowest rung of the pro circuit, only to discover he has to face an opponent (O’Connor) who is also his former best friend and his wife’s former boyfriend.

Not even a global pandemic or a 12-year hiatus could stop the Jackass guys at the box office. “Jackass Forever,” the fourth movie in the anarchic series earned $23.5 million in ticket sales in its first weekend in theaters, according to studio estimates Sunday.It not only exceeded expectations but also easily bested its other main competitors, the big budget sci-fi spectacle “Moonfall” and “Spider-Man: No Way Home,” which has 6 of its 8 weeks in theaters at No. 1.“ Jackass Forever ” brings back Johnny Knoxville, Steve-O, Chris Pontius and Wee Man for another round of pranks, stunts and injuries and has become the best-reviewed in the series.

The latest “Jackass,” starring Johnny Knoxville, Steve-O, Wee Man and other daredevils from MTV days, had been widely expected to win the weekend, but its victory is still surprising and impressive because it has been some time since a pure comedy has claimed the top spot on box office charts.

But “Jackass Forever” is still set to easily turn a profit given its $10 million production budget. Reception for the film is also the highest ever for the “Jackass” series with an 87% critics score on Rotten Tomatoes and a B+ from audiences on CinemaScore.

Ace! Andrew Garfield was spotted heading home from a tennis date with his girlfriend Alyssa Miller on Wednesday February 2. The 38-year-old actor and the 32-year-old model were seen heading back to their car after spending some time volleying back and forth at a Malibu tennis complex. The couple kept their trip to the car low-key, and it looked like they were tired from a day of hitting the ball back and forth.
