Mark Hamill Says Backlash Over Michael Keaton’s Batman Casting Inspired Him to Audition for Joker: ‘There Was a Great Controversy’

Zack Sharf Digital News Director While Heath Ledger, Joaquin Phoenix and Jack Nicholson are the faces that pop into one’s head when the name “Joker” is said, no list of the best on-screen Jokers is complete without Mark Hamill. The “Star Wars” icon voiced the Batman villain on “Batman: The Animated Series,” which originally aired for 85 episodes on Fox Kids from 1992-1995. Hamill earned acclaim for the voice role, but it would have never happened without Michael Keaton’s casting as Batman in Tim Burton’s 1989 comic book film. As Hamill recalled during a recent Wired video interview, Keaton’s casting as Bruce Wayne/Batman earned backlash from comic book fans, considering he was more known as a comedic actor in films such as “Mr. Mom” and Burton’s own “Beetlejuice.”

‘The Little Mermaid’ User Rating Weighted by IMDb After ‘Unusual’ Influx of Negative Scores

J. Kim Murphy The Internet Movie Database (IMDb) has made changes to its rating system for Disney’s live-action remake of “The Little Mermaid” after the new release became the latest target for “review bombing” — a practice in which a production is flooded with negative reviews by users who wield multiple accounts or employ bots to create new ones. Since its release, “The Little Mermaid” has garnered 41,000 user ratings on IMDb. While the film has earned a positive 7.0 (weighted) average score, more than 39% of the ratings are 1 star, the lowest possible option. IMDb has placed a notice on the film’s ratings page, writing that the site’s “rating mechanism has detected unusual voting activity on this title. To preserve the reliability of our rating system, an alternate weighting calculation has been applied.” This message has been employed before by IMDb in the cast of other atypical user score patterns.

Pedro Pascal Says a Fan Gave Him an Eye Infection Recreating 'Game of Thrones' Death Scene

Pedro Pascal has been a fan-favorite star for years, however, his breakthrough role in  almost took its toll!During a recent edition of 's Actor Roundtable Pascal participated in — alongside Kieran Culkin, Jeff Bridges, Michael Imperioli, Evan Peters and Damson Idris — moderator Lacey Rose asked the group about their typical or most memorable interactions with fans.Damson said how many people joke that he's «their husband,» while Culkin explained how people seem to feel very comfortable putting their arms around him, or grabbing and touching him. For Pascal, the interactions he remembers were decidedly more weird.«I remember, earlier on, because of  and the way my character died — speaking of touching — people were super into taking selfies with their thumbs in my eyes,» he joked, referring to how hischaracter, Oberyn Martell, was killed in a fight to the death with Gregor «The Mountain» Clegane, who crushed his skull with his hands after gouging out his eyes.«Wow, that’s a lot of trust,» Culkin joked.«At first, I was so earnest and happy about the success of the character in the show, I’d let them!» Pascal admitted. «And then I remember getting a bit of an eye infection.»Thus, the chances of getting to pretend to gouge out his eyes for a fun photo op seem slim for fans in the future.During the lengthy and candid conversation, Pascal was also asked about the «daddy narrative» that has developed around him in the public consciousness, and he laughingly admitted, «Yeah, I am having fun with it.»«It seems a little role-related.

YouTube 2023 Upfront: Platform to Launch Unskippable 30-Second Ads on TVs, Roger Goodell on Hand to Tout NFL Sunday Ticket Pact

Todd Spangler NY Digital Editor YouTube’s biggest ad innovation for 2023? It might be borrowing a well-worn page from old-fashioned linear TV. At the YouTube Brandcast upfront event Wednesday in New York, execs announced the introduction of 30-second unskippable ads in top-performing YouTube content on TVs — you know, just like the commercials that have run on broadcast and cable networks for decades. YouTube also will start testing new “Pause Experiences” for YouTube on TV screens, showing an ad when viewers pause a video akin to the pause ads Hulu first bowed four years ago. In their pitch to Madison Avenue types, YouTube execs also boasted of the streaming service’s massive reach: More than 150 million unique viewers in the U.S. watched YouTube and YouTube TV on televisions for the month of December 2022, according to Nielsen estimates. YouTube remains the No. 1 most-watched service on TV screens in America (across both streaming platforms and traditional TV networks), and in April was one of the only streamers to see month-to-month growth, per Nielsen.
