A nursery has introduced new security measures after a young child was left locked inside the building after closing time.
The child at Sweet P Daycare in Caerphilly Road, Birchgrove, Cardiff, was locked inside the nursery for around 15 minutes after the building shut on July 13. The nursery, which looks after children up to the age of five, said the incident had occurred due to a computer error.
An internal investigation carried out by the nursery’s management found that software used by staff indicated that the child had been collected when it had not. Guidance on the UK Gov website states that babies, toddlers and very young children should never be left alone.

Care Inspectorate Wales (CIW) and Cardiff Council both confirmed to WalesOnline they are in communication with the nursery following the incident. It has not been stated what, if any, further action will be taken.
In a statement, the nursery said the safety of children in its care was its "utmost priority" and that new measures had been adopted to ensure the incident did not happen again.
It read: "At Sweet P Nursery, we take the safety and wellbeing of all children in our care as our utmost priority. We understand the significant responsibility we hold in providing a secure environment for each child, and we are committed to continuously improving our procedures to prevent any potential incidents.
