If you’ve got a nail appointment coming up and can’t quite decide what to get, then allow us to introduce you to the martini manicure. Identifiable by its creamy sage or olive green shade, martini nails embody the olive accompaniment that goes with the classic drink, and we’re predicting that the colour is going to be everywhere this autumn.
Although you can absolutely stick to a simple coating of the olive-inspired hue, true martini nails take it one step further by layering either a coat of glitter or a chrome finish over the top, which not only make its look more luxurious, but also mirrors the drink’s reflective appearance. We’ve spotted this look popping up all over our social media recently, and nail expert Elizabeth Hanna shared her take on the trend, explaining how she achieved the perfect martini manicure.
Sharing a how-to video on her Instagram account, Elizabeth said: “The fall nail trends are coming at us at full speed, and the martini mani trend is one of my faves. “I have my own take on this one that’s a little bit different, layering a creamy hunter green by @smithandcult under a reflective green glitter from the new @kbshimmer collection. The thing that’s so fun about the reflective glitters is that they take on a whole new life when hit with light that is full of dimension and texture.” In her video, Elizabeth first takes a creamy olive green colour and paints two coats onto her nails. The manicurist uses Smith and Cult’s shade Stranded Stranger, which isn’t available in the UK, but you can get a similar colour with Essie Nail Polish in shade Win Me Over, £8.99 here, or OPI’s Infinite Shine Olive For Green, £11.83 here (was £16.90).
