Thousands of students transitioning into high school will receive a special book to help the movement become easier.
Primary school students across Manchester will receive more than 8,000 copies of the same book.

The students will all be partaking in ‘Manchester’s innovative book giveaway’ which has been going on for three years and will receive a copy of "The Lion Above the Door" by author Onjali Q Rauf.
The novel by Rauf, which Orion published, follows the tale of Leo and his best friend Sangeeta, who frequently feel like outsiders at school and in their small community being the only ethnic minority. The story will resonate with students going into high school as students will be in a new environment putting them in a truly vulnerable area.
Along with the book, students will receive a unique workbook as part of the shared learning project for students transitioning from primary school which is filled with enjoyable, useful activities and challenges relevant to the novel.
Waddah Abbas, father of a year six tudent said: “I think this will be an interesting campaign, I hope my it will help my son be more comfortable in school. He is very nervous for it as none of his friends are going to the same school but I think it will make him stronger and more social when he grows up.”
Councillor Garry Bridges, Executive Member for Early Years, Children, and Young People said: "Getting a copy of the same book as all their friends when they leave their primary school has now become a rite of passage for pupils in Manchester schools.
