Prince William and Kate Middleton reportedly can't move forward with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle without an apology. Following their official exit from the Royal Family in 2020, Meghan, 41, and Harry, 38, caused jaws to drop around the world when they gave a no-holds-barred interview with US talk show host Oprah Winfrey. They levied various accusations at the Firm – Harry's blood relatives – including claiming that an unnamed senior royal questioned "how dark" their son Archie's skin might be when he was born.
Meghan also claimed that Kate Middleton made her cry during an altercation about bridesmaid dresses in the lead up to her 2018 wedding to Prince Harry, whereas it had been widely reported that Meghan had made Kate cry. For all of the latest updates, sign up for OK!'s Royal newsletter.
Now, according to the Telegraph, William and Kate want some form of "acknowledgement" of the hurt the Duke and Duchess of Sussex caused with the tell-all Oprah interview they had. A source said: “They feel that Oprah crossed a line and that someone should acknowledge the motives behind it and the pain it caused." They added: “They [William and Kate] feel they’ve had to be steely to send a message that you cannot just say this hugely upsetting stuff without there being consequences.” Another insider, who referenced Harry's upcoming memoir, added to the publication: “It’s really hard to spend time with someone, or even to speak openly, when you know they’re writing a book about you and giving interviews. The trust is gone right now.” Despite their differences, Princes William and Harry, and their wives Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle have put on a united front following the Queen's death, in a number of public engagements.
