Cristiano Ronaldo has not had the start to the season he would have wanted at Manchester United.
The 37-year-old has scored just once for the Reds this campaign - a penalty in their last match away at Sheriff Tiraspol in the Europa League. United's top goalscorer has been attempting to get back up to speed at Old Trafford having missed most of pre-season.
Ronaldo cited personal reasons for his absence from the club's tour of Thailand and Australia. The weekend before the players were scheduled to return to Carrington, Ronaldo informed United that he wished to leave should a 'reasonable offer' be submitted for his services.

That offer never materialised and Ronaldo would return for the pre-season match with Rayo Vallecano. However, this lack of time on the training pitch over the summer has cost him his place in the starting XI.
Ronaldo's form has been regularly criticised. Even Portuguese fans lambasted their captain following the 1-0 defeat to Spain in the Nations League this week.
Despite this, the forward may still be given a chance to impress on Sunday against Manchester City, even if it is as a substitute. In total, Ronaldo has recorded an impressive nine triumphs from his 15 meetings with the Blues.
In those matches he has scored five goals, three of which have come in the Premier League for United. Although he has shown promising performances against City, Erik ten Hag may find it difficult to deviate from his winning Premier League team.
