Social media reacts to Eurovision 2023 results: “Why does the jury hate fun?”

Eurovision has officially ended for another year, and of course, fans on social media had no shortage of hot takes, conspiracy theories and memes. The 2023 Eurovision Song Contest was hosted last night (May 13) at Liverpool Arena; Sweden came in first place with 583 points, followed by Finland and Israel. Viewers seemed to be divided on the final ranking, with some opining that Finnish artist Käärijä should have won for his campy and unusual ‘Cha Cha Cha’, while others found Loreen‘s ‘Tattoo’ to be a fitting winner. “Massive congrats to [Loreen], who lit up the [Eurovision 2023] stage for [Sweden] (for the second time!) with her current stunning song ‘Tattoo’!” wrote Erik Ramanathan, the US’ official Ambassador to the kingdom of Sweden.

Why International Markets are Driving Global Box Office Recovery in 2023

Patrick Frater Asia Bureau Chief Box office headlines have lately been dominated by Hollywood movies like Universal’s “The Super Mario Bros. Movie,” which has become the first movie of the year to hit $1 billion, and Disney’s “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3.” But a closer look at the global box office recovery indicates that Tinseltown does not have the field to itself. In fact, international films and markets — not the United States — are driving the current global box office recovery. In some territories, local-language titles are even dominant over Hollywood releases. And the overall scale of overseas ticket sales now dwarfs that of North America by more than two to one.

Why the 2023 Tony Awards are hanging by a thread — and may not happen at all

2023 Tony Awards telecast will go on as planned a month from now are slipping away fast, multiple sources told The Post. The complexities of the writers’ strike, which is still in its early days, have made it virtually impossible for the show, Broadway’s biggest promotional push of the year, to air on Sunday, June 11 on CBS.“The Tonys are hanging on by fingernails,” said a source familiar with the turmoil. “It’s a mess.” The American Theatre Wing and Broadway League, two trade organizations that put on the ceremony, are voting Friday to decide how to move forward. The Wing, I’m told, would prefer to postpone the broadcast — which is still set to take place at the United Palace in Washington Heights — until the strike is over. That option would look something like when the 2020 Tony Awards finally went on in Sept.

‘Succession’: Ashley Zukerman Breaks Down Kendall’s Election Offer and Why Nate Is So Polarizing

Ethan Shanfeld SPOILER ALERT: This recap contains spoilers for Season 4, Episode 7 of “Succession,” now streaming on HBO Max. The election looms over “Succession,” which means not only will there be a new president of the United States but, more importantly? Nate is back. The charming — or sleazy, depending on how you view him — political strategist, portrayed by Ashley Zukerman, has reentered the world of the Roys in order to mingle with Waystar’s top brass and the political elite, and make Tom (Matthew Macfadyen) jealous in his own home. In Episode 7, titled “Tailgate Party,” Tom and Shiv (Sarah Snook) host a gathering on election eve, at which Lukas Matsson (Alexander Skarsgård) makes a surprise (well, to the Roy boys) visit. A double agent, Shiv plays informant to the GoJo chief in exchange for a key role in the company should the deal close. But the prospect of a Waystar-GoJo merger, which Kendall (Jeremy Strong) and Roman (Kieran Culkin) have been trying to tank since visiting Norway, seems less likely at the end of the episode, as Shiv worries she picked the wrong team. The Waystar co-CEOs believe they’ve exposed cracks in Matsson’s bid to buy their father’s company, so much so that, by episode’s end, Kendall is floating the idea of Waystar acquiring GoJo.

Smashing Pumpkins’ Billy Corgan on why he asks people to call him William

Smashing Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan has explained why he wants to go by the name “William”, and joked that the decision was partly spurred by Diddy. The singer-songwriter was talking in an interview on The Mistress Carrie Podcast earlier this month when the topic arose, and he explained why he released his 2017 solo record under his given name, William Patrick Corgan.Explaining the choice in wrestling terms — as he is a fan of pro wrestling and the owner of National Wrestling Alliance (NWA) — he said: “The way I see it in my brain is…Billy is like my stage name at this point; it’s how everybody knows me. And for anybody who knows wrestling, we mostly in wrestling call people by their stage names.“Even if I know somebody’s real name, I’ll still call them by their gimmick name.

Beyoncé contests claim that she owes $2.7million in unpaid tax and penalties

Beyoncé has filed a petition challenging a claim made by the US federal tax office that she owes $2.7million (£2.1million) in unpaid tax and penalties. The filing argues that several errors were made in the determinations of the singer’s 2018 and 2019 tax returns.According to the petition addressed to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), which was seen by Forbes, Beyoncé owes $805,850 (£640,811.92) in additional tax for 2018, along with $161,170 (£128,162.38) in penalties. She also allegedly owes $1,442,747 (£912,311.02) in 2019, as well as $288,549.40 (£229454.48) in penalties. However, Beyoncé has argued that the IRS overlooked millions of dollars in charitable donations she made during those two years, including an $868,766 (£690,842.72) contribution to an undisclosed charity in 2018.
