Those deaths and the racial reckoning that followed were not obvious fodder for making people laugh. “All that stuff just kept piling on,” Sykes says, her voice softer and more tentative than the tart Southern twang she deploys on stage. “I knew I wanted to talk about it, but I just didn’t know how to make it funny. We were all just so angry.”

Sony Pictures Classics announced today they have acquired all rights in the United States, Canada, Latin America, Scandinavia, India, Middle East, Turkey, Southeast Asia (excluding Taiwan and South Korea) and airlines within those territories to Fernando Trueba and Javier Mariscal’s upcoming Bossa Nova-themed animated film, “They Shot the Piano Player.” Sony Classics plans to release the film at the end of the year to qualify for year-end awards consideration.A true international production, the film is produced by Cristina Huete of Trueba PC (“Chico & Rita”) in Spain, along with Serge Lalou for Les Films d’Ici (“Josep”) in France, Janneke van de Kerkhof for Submarine Sublime (“Buñuel in the Labyrinth of Turtles”) in the Netherlands, and Humberto Santana in Portugal. It is executive produced by Nano Arrieta of Atlantika and Fabien Westerhoff of Film Constellation.From Fernando Trueba and Javier Mariscal, who previously directed the Oscar-nominated “Chico & Rita,” “They Shot the Piano Player” is narrated by Jeff Goldblum.

Beyoncé kicked off her long-awaited ‘Renaissance’ tour in Sweden last night (May 10) and surprised fans by making the bathrooms onsite gender-neutral.The show was held in Stockholm, and marked the first tour date on Beyoncé’s extensive ‘Renaissance’ tour — her first series of live performances since her “On the Run II Tour” with Jay-Z in 2018. It also marked her first solo tour since 2016.Fans attending last night’s show also noticed one thing different about the ‘Single Ladies’ set-up, she had made public bathrooms at the venue more inclusive.

It seems like American singer Nicole Scherzinger couldn’t get enough of the Disney inspiration as she took to the stage to perform at the historic Coronation concert.The former Pussycat Dolls lead singer performed her own rendition of Disney's Mulan theme song, but her Disney inspo didn’t stop there, with her gown giving serious Little Mermaid vibes.The sea-themed blue gown was made up of a deep royal blue velvet skirt that draped from her hips and trailed onto the stage, as the risqué asymmetrical skirt skimmed one hip and dropped below the other.There was more blue velvet across her bust, draped in a twisted style that was reminiscent of traditional royal gowns. But it was her bodice section that was giving a major ‘underwater’ theme.The sheer light blue panelling across her midsection was covered in a repeated pattern that looked almost like coral and swept across her body between her skirt and bust, showing off her incredible figure.
