This year’s Love Island is just around the corner, and Tyrique Hyde is one of the unlucky in love singletons heading to Mallorca in the hopes of finding love on-screen. He’s a semi-professional footballer who originally hails from Essex and currently plays as a midfielder for East Sussex club Lewes FC.
His team have shared that they’re wishing him well as he enters the show and that they’ll “welcome him back with open arms” when it’s all over. It’s no surprise that 24 year old Tyrique is keen on football, as he’s the son of former Watford and Jamaica player Micah Hyde.
He’s also good pals with former Love Island contestant Toby Aromolaran, who entered the villa in 2021.Toby eventually finished in second place alongside his then girlfriend Chloe Burrows, being just beaten by winners Millie Court and Liam Reardon. The two young men go way back and were even in the same class at school. It seems pretty obvious that the pair bonded over their mutual love of football, as Toby is a semi professional footballer as well who currently plays for Hashtag United.
Tyrique joked in his first promo clip for Love Island that he could be called “a player on and off the pitch.” He said that he isn’t afraid to go after what he wants and isn’t the type to “sit on the fence.” However, he added that he’s a “nice guy”, which people don’t always expect.Tyrique also explained that he has a small lightning bolt tattooed behind his left ear for a very important reason. The footballer is deaf in one ear, his right one, so explained that he’s able to tell people “don’t talk to me, talk to the lightning bolt.” Tyrique is the second deaf contestant to enter the Love Island villa.
