It is understood that the company plans for the Starship rocket to one day carry humans to the moon and Mars. Today will mark its first-ever orbital test as it flies up from its launchpad in Texas and attempts to travel around Earth.
The rocket has been designed to be uniquely reusable, which means that it can potentially be launched several times into orbit. Today's test will stand as a signifier for how much progress SpaceX has made, with many people likely watching on with high hopes.

The Starship is set to launch at 9am local time (2pm British time) with a window of 150 minutes. This means the launch could take place anywhere between 2pm and 4.30pm in the UK as long as any additional delays do not take place.
There are a variety of ways to watch the live stream which is set to start 45 minutes before the launch at 1.15pm in the UK. The live stream can either be watched from the SpaceX website or from the company's official YouTube channel.
