A group of determined women is urging the Department of Work and Pensions (DWP) to provide "full restitution" to all women affected by the change in State Pension ages. The 'Back To 60' campaign has gained traction on social media in recent weeks, with calls for a swift completion of an Ombudsman's report into the State Pension age change that has impacted certain women.
Women Against State Pension Inequality (WASPI) have spearheaded the movement, advocating for justice for all women born in the 1950s who have been adversely affected by the State Pension age increase, first to 65 and then to 66 in line with men.
According to campaigners, approximately 3.8 million women have been affected, with one in four now struggling to afford basic necessities such as food. One in three women have reportedly fallen into debt within the past six months, and tragically, a WASPI woman is said to be dying every 13 minutes.
In support of the 'Back To 60' campaign, one woman expressed her frustration on Twitter, stating: "1950s women discriminated in the workplace and denied a pension at the age of 60 - no letter - no notice - I had to work an extra 6 years - UK pensions are one of the lowest in comparison to other developed countries - it's not knocking on doors we want - increase pensions now #BackTo60."
Another concerned individual questioned: "When will the Ombudsman get his finger out and let us know his revised findings on Stage 2? FULL RESTITUTION is the only fair solution!"
A third person shared their personal struggle, saying: "One more day to go before I finally qualify for the pension I should have received 6 years ago! I shall never stop fighting for FULL RESTITUTION as the only fair solution! #BackTo60."
