UTA Signs Oscar-Nominated Composer Laura Karpman (EXCLUSIVE)

Jazz Tangcay Artisans Editor Global talent, entertainment, sports and advisory company UTA has signed composer Laura Karpman for representation in all areas. The signing comes on the heels of her Oscar-nominated score for best picture nominee “American Fiction.” In a statement, Karpman who has won five Emmys said, “While I’m at my core a musician and composer, there are so many things that spark me creatively.
I am absolutely thrilled to be partnering with UTA to jump into different opportunities that inspire and excite me, like expanding more deliberately into fashion, sports, concert tours, advocacy and producing.” Aside from scoring “American Fiction,” Karpman has worked on “The Marvels” and the second season of the animated Marvel series “What If…?” with her wife, fellow composer Nora Kroll-Rosenbaum. Her filmmaker collaborations include Steven Spielberg, Francis Ford, Sofia and the late Eleanor Coppola, Cord Jefferson, Nia DaCosta, Alex Gibney, Misha Green, Rory Kennedy, Kasi Lemmons and Sam Pollard.
Last month, Karpman debuted “BALLS,” an opera chronicling Billie Jean King’s epic 1973 “Battle of the Sexes” tennis match with Bobby Riggs. Karpman wrote the opera with words by New York Times writer Gail Collins.
Karpman, who has an all-female studio, has several projects in the pipeline including multiple projects for Marvel (among them, Season 3 of “What If” and the Apple Vision Pro Marvel experience), “Justice” (the upcoming Doug Liman documentary about Brett Kavanaugh), a musical based on Dorothy Arzner’s classic MGM film “Dance Girl Dance,” two unannounced video game projects, one additional unannounced TV series and one additional unannounced film project.
