Almost 200 new homes could be built in Wigan if proposals get the green light at next week’s planning committee meeting.
The town hall will hear four separate applications on December 6, three of which would provide an influx of new homes to Leigh, Tyldesley and Atherton. The largest of the applications is at the site of Moss Bank Nurseries, which would see 146 homes built in the area.
The two smaller developments would see two old farmyards transformed into housing cul-de-sacs if approved.

The last application on the agenda is seeking permission for two indoor swimming pools in Golborne. The company - Swim@55 - provides alternative swimming facilities for those who struggle to get space in larger facilities in the area.

Moss Bank Nurseries’ former patch of land off Hooten Lane could make way for 146 new houses if applicants Bellway Homes get their way. This development would see the demolition of the old nurseries on the site and replaced with houses with “an attractive green gateway”, according to the Design and Access statement.
The application had previously been for 158 homes, but consultation responses led to the developers reducing the scheme by 12 homes.
Proposals for the site would be split into two phases which will allow for Phase 1 to be delivered as housing while the nurseries are relocated to other premises. Once the nurseries are vacant Phase 2 can then be delivered which will
