Cable News Has Less Room for Primetime Provocateurs Like Tucker Carlson, Don Lemon

Brian Steinberg Senior TV Editor It’s an idea that would make any news executive salivate. What if MSNBC revived CNN’s old “Crossfire” show, enlisting Tucker Carlson from the right and Don Lemon from the left? Such a concept would normally be unthinkable. Tucker Carlson is known for his work on Fox News. Don Lemon has long held forth for CNN. It has been that way for years. Until, as of earlier this week, it wasn’t. Within the space of 90 minutes on April 24, Carlson was ousted from Fox News Channel and Lemon was pushed from CNN. Both were stalwart personalities for their networks. Both were valued for their ability to spark conversation, debate, pushback and even furor. For years, that has been the cable-news coin of the realm. As the economics of TV shift, however, it is becoming clearer that media executives may have less patience for TV-news pot-stirrers.

Megyn Kelly and Chris Cuomo React to Tucker Carlson and Don Lemon's Firings

Megyn Kelly and Chris Cuomo have a thing or two in common with Tucker Carlson and Don Lemon. Kelly and Cuomo are weighing in on Monday's sudden firing of Carlson from Fox News and Lemon from CNN, offering both support and perspective to the situations. Kelly took to her eponymous SiriusXM show on Monday to weigh in on both exits. First, Carlson from Fox News. «This is a terrible move by Fox, and it's a great thing for Tucker Carlson,» she said.

Dominion has already collected its payout from Fox News and had no comment on Monday’s development.Carlson was a centerpiece of Dominion’s defamation suit, but his role was less as a provocateur and more as one of the dissenting voices internally disparaging the network for indulging the 2020 election conspiracy theories of Donald Trump and supporters Rudy Giuliani and Sidney Powell.

Rupert Murdoch’s Settlement of the Dominion Case May Have Cost Him $787.5 Million, but It’s Still a Victory for Fake News

Owen Gleiberman Chief Film Critic Let no one deny it: Rupert Murdoch is clever like a fox. He’s slyer than his adversaries in mainstream media. They still think in real-world terms. But Murdoch thinks in terms of the world that he’s created — the world of fake news, of lies that play because they carry the ring of vengeful mythology (life as a Charles Bronson film that never ends). The world that Fox News pretends is reality. You could make a case that in recent weeks, Murdoch’s circus of happy-talk dystopian propaganda (otherwise known as any random half hour of Fox News) took a major hit. The release of documents subpoenaed during the Dominion Voting System’s $1.6 billion defamation lawsuit against Fox News revealed something that was, or should be, profoundly embarrassing to the network: that there are moments when its star huckster, Tucker Carlson, actually tells the truth (at least in private). The revelation that Carlson, along with a number of Fox News executives, peddled Donald Trump’s crackpot assertion that he won the 2020 election not because they believed it, but because they thought they had to go along with what their viewers wanted to hear, made the Fox team look like craven cowards. The lawsuit never made it to trial, but because those documents were leaked you could say the damage was done. And to keep the trial from happening, Murdoch had to cough up the mother of all defamation settlements: $787.5 million.

Will Melania Trump back her husband’s next play for president after all?? Maybe it depends on how hard Donald Trump begs. In public, he makes a show of being strong and unapologetic, but maybe behind closed doors he’s a whiny child (like a lot of other guys tbh).

the indictment of Donald Trump, which is of course something of a surprise, since documents released as part of Dominion Voting Systems’ defamation lawsuit against Fox News prove that at least in 2021, he hated Trump “passionately.”Nevertheless, Carlson was outraged on Trump’s behalf on Friday’s episode of “Tucker Carlson Tonight,” and while articulating his disdain of the American legal system, Carlson devised an unusual legal argument in Trump’s defense. In short, “I know you [the grand jury] are but what am I {Trump]?”You can watch the clip at the top of the page (courtesy of nikki mccann ramírez on Twitter). The comments came during a longer rant where among other things, Carlson called the situation “third world.”“And if that isn’t third world enough, someone leaked the news of Donald Trump’s grand jury indictment to the media.
