While the past two seasons of HBO‘s “True Detective” didn’t measure up to the first, the show still cements Nic Pizzolatto as one of the better TV writers out there. But Pizzolatto isn’t part of the upcoming “True Detective: Night Country,” so what’s his next project? Well, THR reports that he’s at work with Amazon on a new series that may be Prime Video‘s answer to Taylor Sheridan‘s “Yellowstone” behemoth.

reported in January 2021 that his series under the deal, “Redeemer,” which had “True Detective” Season 1 star Matthew McConaughey attached to star, was no longer moving forward.After creating HBO’s “True Detective,” Pizzolatto remains credited as an executive producer for the fourth season, which has been titled “True Detective: Night Country” and will premiere this year with stars Jodie Foster and Kali Reis acting as the leading detective duo.

The untitled series is said to “revolve around a former outlaw who must reckon with a threat from his past in order to keep the life and family he has worked so hard to build,” according to sources. Amazon declined to comment. Pizzolatto is best known for creating the HBO anthology drama series “True Detective,” which exploded onto the scene in 2014 with a first season starring Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson that received substantial critical and popular acclaim. Two more seasons have aired to date, with a fourth season starring Jodie Foster and Kali Reis on the way. Issa López is writing Season 4 with Pizzolatto attached as an executive producer.
