At Stagecoach, Eric Church Brings a Full Choir, Saves His Band for the Finale and Has Polarized Fans Debating a Love-It-or-Leave-It Set

Chris Willman Senior Music Writer and Chief Music Critic It would be hard to imagine a more actually polarizing set — as in, splitting real fans into roughly even, truly diametrically opposed camps — than the headlining show Eric Church delivered to round out the first night of Stagecoach in California. The 70,000 festival attendees will definitely not lack for anything to talk, or argue, about for the rest of the weekend, and the debate will also continue among the many more fans who watched the livestream on Prime Video and Amazon’s Twitch channel.

We went to the new Second City New York theater. Here’s why you need to go

Second City Theater. For decades — since 1959 (!) — the improv and sketch institution has served as one of the major training grounds for American comedy. Notable alums include the aforementioned “SNL” players as well as household names Steve Carell, Stephen Colbert, Amy Poehler, John Candy and Martin Short to name just a few from their stacked roster. And now the venerated theater has landed in New York, putting on laugh-out-loud funny, ballsy, personal, physical, immersive shows seven nights a week. So, we checked it out.On April 25, the New York Post attended a production of the theater’s ambitious mainstage revue “Ruthless Acts of Kindness.” To give you an idea of what to expect — and we highly recommend you do — here’s everything you need to know and more about getting your inner Lorne Michaels on and catching a show at New York’s newly opened Second City Theater.Commuting to the Brooklyn theater from Queens, Manhattan or the Bronx? If that’s the case, we suggest boarding either an L train and getting off at the Bedford stop for a 5-10 minute walk to the venue or taking the scenic route and strolling over from the G’s Nassau Avenue stop.

‘Uncle Vanya’ Review: Steve Carell Fits Seamlessly Into a Stellar Ensemble in a Gorgeous Broadway Revival

Trish Deitch Director Lila Neugebauer sets Lincoln Center Theater’s starry, breathtaking new Broadway production of Anton Chekhov’s “Uncle Vanya” in current-day America rather than Russia around 1898, the year the play was written. There’s a baseball cap and a backpack with dayglow tape; pills are in plastic bottles with childproof caps; when someone runs out of ink while paying bills, they look for a new pen.
