A sneaky shopper stole a jewellery bag containing a Gucci ring after the woman who owned it put it down to browse at Boxing Day bargains.
Hadija Naiwoga, 44, grabbed the Beaverbrooks bag after it was briefly placed on the floor in a shop and vanished with it, a court heard.
The mum-of two took the bag home before her partner then tried to return the ring to Beaverbrooks the next day.
A shop assistant noticed a problem and police were called.

Naiwoga, who works in the care sector, was arrested for theft while no further action was taken against her partner.
She now faces losing her job after admitting the offence in court.
Manchester Magistrates Court was told how the incident unfolded on December 27 last year.
The complainant was planning on returning the £180 silver Gucci ring to Beaverbrooks in the Arndale shopping centre.
It had been bought as a Christmas gift but did not fit, the court heard.
"The shop did not have the ring in store so told her to come back on January 4 when they could then swap it over", prosecutor Adam Bonney said.
"She then went onto Zara browsing around and put the bag with the Gucci ring on the floor.
