Wout Weghorst remains hopeful of staying at Manchester United beyond this season, despite it being understood the club are not planning on keeping him on a permanent basis.
Weghorst has scored just two goals since signing for United on loan from Burnley in the January transfer window and his start in attacking midfield against West Ham at the weekend was his first since the loss to Newcastle on April 2.
United do not have an option or obligation to sign Weghorst and it's understood a permanent offer is unlikely to be made.

Weghorst, speaking at the London Stadium after United's loss to West Ham on Sunday, was asked about his future, but he insisted that a concrete decision about his future was yet to be communicated to him.
“In those [talks] the club said they are very satisfied with me. It has absolutely not been communicated with me that Man United don’t want to continue with me,” Weghorst told The Times.
“They appreciate my value. They believe I am absolutely an asset for the team. Of course I have heard different things [in the media]. I have to wait and see what happens and focus on our goals in the league and cup competitions."
Weghorst has started just one of the last seven games in the league since Anthony Martial's return to fitness and he added that he would want assurances from Erik ten Hag about his game before signing a permanent deal at United.
“I’m a guy who likes to play football," he said. "When your appearances are reduced, as has been the case lately, you realise what you are missing. If the club wants to keep me, I’ll have to know what role they have in mind for me.”
