A spokesperson for Trafford Council said: "While we recognise the scale of the torrential downpour during the game against Arsenal on Sunday, we have been in touch with Manchester United ahead of the match against Newcastle this evening. Club officials have fully co-operated with us and have provided reassurance that the safety of fans has not been compromised. We will continue to monitor the situation."
