The Wailers announce 40th anniversary ‘Legend’ UK tour, in memory of Bob Marley

But box office projections indicated the Paramount movie — which chronicles Marley’s (Kingsley Ben-Adir) rise to fame in the mid-1970s and complex relationship with his wife Rita Marley (Lashana Lynch) up until he died in 1981 — would start slow.

Charli XCX, Green Day and St. Vincent have been confirmed as among the presenters for tonight’s BRIT Awards. The ceremony is taking place at The O2 in London tonight (March 2), and the show will be presented by a trio of hosts – Maya Jama, Clara Amfo and Roman Kemp.

Naman Ramachandran Paramount’s “Bob Marley: One Love” topped the U.K. and Ireland box office for the second consecutive weekend with £2.3 million ($3 million), according to numbers from Comscore. The biopic now has a total of £11.3 million after its second weekend on release.

His roster includes “Bohemian Rhapsody,” “Rocketman” and “Walk the Line.” When it came time to bring reggae icon Bob Marley’s story to the big screen, his challenge remained the same as always: “How do you tell the story about a legendary figure? How do you accomplish it? And how do we make sure we utilize Bob?” Early meetings took place during the pandemic with Marley’s sons Ziggy and Stephen as well as director Reinaldo Marcus Green over Zoom. The answer would be in authentically preserving Bob Marley’s live recordings and enhancing them – with actor Kingsley Ben-Adir’s vocals layered in.

The film added $13.5 million from 3,925 North American theaters in its second weekend of release, a 53% decline from its debut. “One Love” has been a surprise box office success with $71.1 million domestically and $100 million globally.

Michaela Zee Paramount’s “Bob Marley: One Love” is feeling more than alright at the global box office. The musical biopic has generated $101.1 million worldwide after only 10 days in theaters, including $61.4 million in North America and $39.7 million from 59 international territories. “One Love” retained the top spot on domestic charts in its second weekend of release, grossing $3.7 million on Friday.

FRIDAY EVENING: Paramount’s Bob Marley: One Love remains on uppers at the weekend box office with a $3.6M Friday, and a 3-day of $13.4M at 3,597 theaters, -53% which will get the Reinaldo Marcus Green directed title to $71M by Sunday. That’s a great piece of counterprogramming business in a struggling marketplace. Say what you will, S&P Global about putting Paramount Global on “credit watch negative,” but the film studio has a vibrant theatrical release schedule this year with Gladiator 2, Quiet Place: Day, If and Smile 2 to name a few.

Bob Marley is one of the most important and influential artists of all time, and now the Jamaican reggae icon is coming to the big screen in the form of Bob Marley: One Love, a new biopic from Paramount Pictures that hits theaters February 14. The film stars Kingsley Ben-Adir as Marley and focuses on the period following a failed assassination attempt made on the singer in 1976.

There will be more wide releases at the box office this weekend –three, in fact– but they’re not expected to make a dent before Legendary/Warner Bros.’ Dune: Part Two brings everybody back on March 1 with a hopeful $80M start.

But this weekend’s showdown of Sony’s comic book adaptation “Madame Web” versus Paramount’s musical biopic “Bob Marley: One Love” demonstrates that’s no longer the case — superhero tentpoles no longer hold all the power. “One Love,” a PG-13 drama that’s aimed at older female audiences, towered over the newest Marvel (adjacent) flick, earning $51 million over the extended holiday weekend.
