Aberdeenshire has been named by Good Housekeeping as its number one holiday destination for 2023.
The more than 100 year-old magazine looked at areas from across the globe, with the 'underrated' Scottish hotspot beating out iconic destinations such as Aruba and the Swiss Alps.
The north-eastern region was seen as an area filled with exciting things to do thanks to its unique sights and its royal connections.
According to the lifestyle magazine, Aberdeenshire has a "glorious coastline packed with wildlife to majestic mountains and dramatic rivers that rival those of Canada."
The lifestyle experts suggest a trip over to Ballater and nearby Balmoral, where you can catch an upcoming exhibition dedicated to the late Queen Elizabeth II.
The monarch loved her holiday retreat, and you will have a chance to get some insight into the Queen's time at her Scottish home through the exhibition.
Good Housekeeping also recommends taking in some of the nature with leaping salmon in the Falls of Feugh and seals which can be spotted at Newburgh Beach.
And of course, the idyllic hills don't just offer great sights from sea-level, if you're willing to brave the long hikes that Aberdeenshire's many Munros offer, you can see much of the region from the tall peaks.
If you want to try something a little different, the Peterhead Prison Museum "shouldn't be missed" according to the experts.
While they recommend getting a car to see as much of the region as possible, they also outline a few accommodations that are worth visiting.
While it may not be ideal in this weather, they say that Glen Dye in Banchory offers "gorgeous glamping, cottages and slow living ."
If you're looking for a little more luxury, you can get a "cosy atmosphere" at Balmoral

After enormous success and Oscars for films ranging from Whiplash to La La Land to First Man Director/Writer Damien Chazelle returned to an early dream project first envisioned 15 years ago, a no-holds barred look at early Hollywood, a time when not only movies were transitioning from silent to sound, but Los Angeles itself was booming from desert to bulging metropolis. People were caught up in a turbulent time of change, and it didn’t always work out for some. As witnessed in the resulting film and years of meticulous research, Babylon is a sight to behold, a decadent, free wheeling, at times even poignant look at a series of dreamers, stars, fringe players, and all who wanted a piece of a world that felt out of control, uninhibited, and full of promise – and downfall.

Will Hollywood embrace the Golden Globes? Is America even interested in who the Hollywood Foreign Press Association nominates anymore? We likely won’t know until the Globes return to NBC on Tuesday, January 10th, but the HFPA were up bright and early this morning to reveal their 2023 nominees. And, assuming they care, it was a very big day for “The Banshees of Inisherin” which earned eight nominations on the film side while “Abbott Elementary” took five in the television categories.
