Former U.S. drug czar William Bennett said the United States is right now "soft on too many things" — including the criminals who are smuggling deadly fentanyl into the country and contributing to the death of numerous Americans. The first James Bond film premiered 60 years ago and has continued to keep fans captivated with every new addition to the franchise.There have been seven actors who have portrayed the iconic spy and 27 movies in the franchise.  The films are based on a 1953 novel by Ian Flemming about a British spy who works for the M16 and goes by the codename 007. James Bond film producer Michael G. Wilson, who runs Eon Productions with Barbara Broccoli, has revealed that a seduction scene from the 1963 thriller From Russia With Love is always used to test those aspiring to play Ian Fleming’s ruthless spy.

The Czech composer who inspired Mozart is the subject of Il Boemo, a handsome period biopic that premiered in competition at the San Sebastian Film Festival. Written and directed by Petr Vaclav (Marian), it’s an entertaining insight into Josef Mysliveček’s music and his hedonistic lifestyle, with an operatic running time of 140 minutes. While the film is mostly in Italian, it’s the Czech entry for the International Feature race at the Academy Awards and should attract an audience of mature music lovers.

Naman Ramachandran Leading practitioners of the Asian theatrical business participated in a lively discussion on the future of the sector post-pandemic and the signs are encouraging. Speaking at the APOS conference in Singapore on Thursday, moderated by Variety Asia editor Patrick Frater, Stephen Laslocky, VP at leading research firm Media Partners Asia, provided a handy overview of the theatrical market in Southeast Asia. Laslocky said that Indonesia, the largest market in the region, would be back to 2019 levels of theatrical business by the end of 2022. “In Malaysia, the demand generally appears to be back, the issue was the pipeline just wasn’t so great, particularly this year. But next year, they think that’s going to improve for both local, which has done very well this year, and for foreign films next year,” Laslocky said.

James Bond actor Pierce Brosnan has admitted he wasn’t a fan of No Time To Die.Brosnan, who played the 007 agent from 1995 to 2002, was recently asked about the future of the Bond franchise in light of Daniel Craig retiring after recently playing the role in No Time To Die for the final time.Discussing which films in the franchise he had recently seen, Brosnan told GQ: “I saw the last one and I saw Skyfall. I love Skyfall.“I’m not too sure about the last one,” he added of No Time To Die, leaving the end of his sentence unfinished. “Daniel always gives of his heart.

After longtime James Bond actor Daniel Craig gave his final bow to the character in 2021, fans have long speculated Idris Elba would make a suitable replacement. However, new comments from Elba and 007 producers indicate it may not happen.  During an episode of "The Shop" on HBO, Elba discussed the prospect of playing Bond, adding he did not think it would "satisfy" his personal or career goals.  "I don't think that playing Bond will satisfy some of my personal goals," the 50-year-old said.

Houman Seyyedi’s darkly comic drama World War III has been named as Iran’s entry for Best International Feature at the 95th Academy Awards, taking place at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles on March 12th, 2023.

Danny Boyle "persuaded" Queen Elizabeth to take part in the 007 sketch for the Olympics. The late monarch - who passed away on September 8 at the age of 96 following a 70 year reign - appeared alongside James Bond star Daniel Craig back in 2012 as part of a sketch for the opening of the 2012 Olympics in London which saw her go on a mission with the legendary spy before a stand-in was seen skydiving into the London Stadium, with acclaimed director Danny Boyle having been the one to persuade Her Late Majesty to take part in the first place. Lord Sebastian Coe, who served as London Organising Committee for the Olympics, said: "There isn't a day that goes by without somebody somewhere in the world asking me about this.

Liza Foreman Making its world premiere in the main competition at the San Sebastián Festival on Sept. 19, “Il Boemo,” the story of a forgotten Czech composer who rose to fame in the second half of the 18th century, has taken the award-winning filmmaker Petr Václav more than a decade to complete.  Known as Il Boemo, Josef Mysliveček’s fame was short-lived.  He died before reaching the age of 44, after a whirlwind career composing music for Italian courts and theaters.  But Václav, together with his DPs, Diego Romero and Suarez Llanos, costume designer Andrea Cavalletto, and a slew of top operatic singers, has created an action-packed period piece, celebrating his tumultuous life, operatic drama, and the aesthetic beauty of the era.
