The Hunger Games: The Ballad Of Songbirds And Snakes, ahead of its UK release on 17 November.The movie – which is a prequel to The Hunger Games trilogy, based on the novel series by Suzanne Collins – is set 64 years before Katniss Everdeen volunteers to partake in the Hunger Games, a dystopian fight to the death between children. The premise focuses on the origin story of the future president, Coriolanus Snow, played by Tom Blyth.With a budget of $100 million, the generational impact of the original trilogy, and famous faces including Viola Davis (The Help, The Suicide Squad), Rachel Zegler (West Side Story) and Peter Dinklage (Game Of Thrones, Avengers: Infinity War) anticipation around the prequel was high.However, the critical response to the first screenings has been largely negative.

‘Squid Game’ star Park Hae-soo to lead new Netflix K-drama, ‘Karma’

Squid Game star Park Hae-soo has been cast as the lead in the upcoming Netflix original K-drama, Karma (working title).Based on a Kakao webtoon of the same name, the upcoming original Korean series will be a crime thriller that follows an ensemble cast of characters, whose “disparate lives intertwine under the ominous shadow of an unbreakable fate”, per a press release.The synopsis for the series reads: “The story revolves around a witness to an accident, a physician traumatized by nightmares, a man whose world was upended by an unexpected event and another man drowning in private loans. Each one is bound by the inescapable ties of a terrible destiny, trapped by ill-fated entanglements.”The central figure in Karma will be played by Squid Game actor Park Hae-soo, who will star as the man who makes a life-changing deal after witnessing a mysterious accident.Park will be joined by a star-studded cast, including Shin Min-a (Our Blues), Lee Hee-jun (Chimera), Kim Sung-kyun (Moving), Lee Kwang-soo (The Killer’s Shopping List) and Gong Seung-yeon (The First Responders).Karma will be written and directed by filmmaker Lee Il-hyung, known for his work on 2022’s Remember and 2016’s A Violent Prosecutor.

Netflix has released a new trailer for reality series Squid Game: The Challenge – check it out above.Based on Hwang Dong-hyuk’s Korean survival drama, the reality show sees 456 contestants from around the world compete in various challenges inspired by the series for a $4.56million cash prize.A synopsis reads: “As they compete through a series of games inspired by the original show – plus surprising new additions – their strategies, alliances, and character will be put to the test while competitors are eliminated around them.”As shown in the trailer, the show’s anmatronic doll returns for Red Light, Green Light, while the elevated glass bridge and honeycomb games from the series are also represented.It also shows some of the dynamics between contestants, as one remarks: “You can’t trust anybody in here.”The 10-episode season debuts on November 22, with new episodes premiering weekly through to December 6. The series is produced by Studio Lambert and The Garden.The streaming service announced a second season of Squid Game was in development in June last year.
