Nothing says British summer time quite like a seaside holiday, and with hundreds of miles of coastline we’re spoilt for choice. Yet you don’t have to travel far from Manchester to stay at one of the best seaside hotels in the UK.
The Sunday Times has compiled a list of the 25 best hotels by the British seaside, which includes the Blaithwaite Estate in Cumbria. Lucky for us it’s just over two hours’ drive away from Manchester and a stone’s throw away from the Lake District.
Blaithwaite is situated between two gorgeous stretches of coastline, Bowness-on-Solway and St Bees. The estate itself is surrounded by lush countryside, providing you with the perfect rural escape.

At St Bees there’s three miles of stunning shingle beach which is overlooked by St Bees Head, a dramatic sandstone bluff. From the village you can embark on Wainwright’s coast to coast walk.
With these incredible locations on its doorstep, it’s easy to see why Blaithwaite made the list. But the estate itself has plenty to offer guests, with 250 acres of land to explore.
It features a historical arboretum, an apple orchard, gardens and woodland areas with lots of trails to follow. There are also play areas for children and various activities including crazy golf.
Blaithwaite is home to a range of self-catering accommodation options. Standard camping starts at £16 and there are facilities for tents, caravans and campervans.
