Amazon are the latest company to announce a base pay increase for thousands of workers across the country.
The positive change will come into force in April when minimum wage laws will change following the start of the new financial year. The move follows a range of companies who have confirmed a pay rise for workers.
Companies including Pret a Manger and Costa announced pay rises in recent weeks, avoiding the risk of conflicting with UK-wide minimum living wage rules, with the rate to be increased to £10.42 per hour for over 25s next month.
Amazon's raise will see more than 50,000 employees across the UK benefit, with some workers to be paid £12 an hour based on location.
The rise follows cuts made by Amazon, with the business recently laying off many workers. The online retailer is set to cut a further 9,000 jobs across the world on top of the 18,000 already announced in January.
Following the latest conformation from Amazon, a spokesperson said: "We regularly review our pay to ensure we offer competitive wages, and we’re pleased to be announcing another increase for our UK teams.
"Over the past seven months our minimum pay has risen by 10%, and by more than 37% since 2018.
"We also work hard to provide great benefits, a positive work environment and excellent career opportunities.
"These are just some of the reasons people want to come and work at Amazon, whether it’s their first job, a seasonal role or an opportunity for them to advance their career."
